Special Announcement:

At our next regular meeting on November 21, 4:30 p.m., in the WILMAPCO conference room (8th floor, STAR Tower), BikeNewark will consider two alternative amendments to Article IV, item 6, of its bylaws and then vote to change the bylaws accordingly.

The text in question currently reads:
“Liaison Members are representatives of partner organizations that work cooperatively with BikeNewark to advance common goals. Liaison Members do not have voting rights. These organizations include:
a. City of Newark
b. Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT)
c. Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO)
d. Downtown Newark Partnership (DNP)
e. University of Delaware (UD)
f. Newark Bike Project (NBP)
g. Bike Delaware”

Option A is to update the list to include a new partner organization (Delaware Greenways) and remove a partner organization that no longer exists (Downtown Newark Partnership). Under this option, the revised text would read:

“Liaison Members are representatives of partner organizations that work cooperatively with BikeNewark to advance common goals. Liaison Members do not have voting rights. These organizations include:
a. City of Newark
b. Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT)
c. Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO)
d. University of Delaware (UD)
e. Newark Bike Project (NBP)
f. Bike Delaware
g. Delaware Greenways”

Option B is to remove the list from the bylaws and ask the organization’s secretary to maintain the list, which can be updated by the membership. Under this option, the revised text would read:

“Liaison Members are representatives of partner organizations that work cooperatively with BikeNewark to advance common goals. Liaison Members do not have voting rights. A list of such partner organizations shall be maintained by the Secretary.
Changes to the list may be made by the voting membership following the rules laid out in Article VIII, Section A.”

You are welcome to attend this meeting and contribute to the discussion; however, only full members (according to BikeNewark bylaws) may vote on this proposal.

photo of route signMy family and I were just a few kilometers into our bike tour up the west coast of Sweden when we pulled off for lunch beside a two-window shack in the tiny fishing village of Domsten. It was there, biting into a piece of smoked mackerel—caught by the proprietor’s husband in that very bay—that we knew were in for a special week.
